Where was it found?

You asked – where was it found?

It was found in the cave (grotte) of Mas d’Azil in southern France in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains.

The cave was made by a river and was later lived in by people. They left lots of animal bone behind of the animals they had eaten, which included reindeer, red deer, wild boar, horse, bison and aurochs (both wild cattle), chamois and ibex (both wild goat). Some of the bones and antler from the deer were carved into useful tools and decorated with animal carvings.

A man called Édouard Piette excavated (dug) the cave over a hundred years ago in the 1880s.
