specialisation, resilience, creativity, understanding of our environment and sustainability contributed to the development of early society and ultimately who we are today.
The KS2 prehistory content can be delivered through lessons in the classroom, outside on school grounds or in the countryside. Lessons can be delivered as half day, full day or overnight camps.
With Really Wild Education your students will learn to safely make fire the way our ancient ancestors discovered how to do it. They will cook ancient bread recipes with a tasty twist, build shelters and learn how to hunt and gather in the wild. The students will take a journey through time from the Stone Age to the Iron Age and have a small taste of what it was really like to live in those days.
Our bush craft and survival instructors are trained in all primitive knowledge techniques of survival that our ancestors passed down through the ages. Your students will come away from a day with us having gained some of these incredible confidence lifting and useful skills.

BRINGING THE SUBJECT ALIVE WITH AN INTERACTIVE HISTORY LESSON!
Experience the Stone Age first hand learning the skills and crafts of our ancestors in our woods or in your classroom. Get up close and personal with furs and skins, flint and obsidian tools, grass, pottery and rawhide baskets, hold the tools that your ancestors used to shape our future.
We take participants on a journey through the Stone Age discovering ancient skills and traditional crafts. Delve into the Stone Age to discover how our ancestors lived and thrived without modern equipment. We combine history with creativity encouraging participants to learn about their environment, ask questions about their ancestors and explore the uses of the natural resources around them.
In the Archer’s grave, excavated near Stonehenge, lay the earliest metal artefacts found in Britain – gold hair rings and copper daggers. He was one of the Beaker People. In his head and hands he carried magical knowledge of metalwork. What made him set out from the mountains of central Europe, risking wild animals and hostile tribes to cross the sea in a small boat?
Jane’s workshops will illustrate many of the questions she explored and some of the answers she discovered. Participants will be encouraged to think of questions of their own and to discuss the differences between their lives and those of girls and boys in a pre-literate, male-dominated, status-conscious warrior society (!). They will be given resources to make drawings and /or write about the Archer and his sister, the Beaker People, their homes, the animals they farmed and hunted, their clothes and kit, what they believed and more.
Jane is an experienced teacher of drawing. As an illustrator she collaborates with archaeologists to interpret their findings and ideas for books, museums and the media. Her involvement in prehistory began long ago when she worked as a digger and draftswoman on the Stonehenge Environs Project. She made the original image of the Amesbury Archer which was published worldwide and is displayed in the British Museum.
Ancient Craft, setup and run by James Dilley is dedicated to the archaeology of primitive crafts and technologies that encompass three prehistoric ages: STONE; BRONZE and IRON. This includes working with natural materials like flint, wood, bone, leather, ceramics, metals, fibres and wools. My outreach objective is to encourage people of all ages to learn about long-lost crafts by bringing back to life our ancestors skills and knowledge from the primitive past.
A PhD student at the University of Southampton, James is a craftsman and re-enactor who specialises in all prehistoric technologies. Working with museums (British Museum, Stonehenge, Pitt Rivers museum), heritage centres and media (Time Team; Coast; National Geographic; The Great British Countryside), publishers (Dorling Kindersley, New Scientist), photographers, schools and geologists in research and experimental archaeology.

Covering British archaeology Neolithic - Viking + Ancient Egypt
A typical day caters for upto 4 classes. We start altogether with a walk through timeline travelling back to the beginnings of human history in Britain. The children dress up as ancestors from the stone, copper, bronze and iron ages. The children then work in class groups on activities such as grinding corn, investigating houses, handling replica objects and hunting for mammoths.
